Hootsuite vs Tweetdeck

Um...both.

Seriously. I have to use both to keep up with the twittering world. On occasion, I even need the Twitter site itself.  Why?

I have a Mac.

I love my Mac, don't get me wrong. But the difference in programming can cause the user some mild frustrations. Like with Twitter. It goes something like this:

  • Twitter? How fun!!! Look at all the cool people I've found!! Now how can I follow everyone easily without always logging on? Hmmmm...
  • Hurray for Tweetdeck! And it works on my iPad!
  • Uh...what's with the changes to the functions guys, and what happened to the app on my iPad?!
  • Forget it, I'm going with Hootsuite. It works on both.
  • Or not. Gah! So confusing! Hello Twitter site...uh...why can't I edit my retweets? *sigh*
  • Oh, look! Tweetdeck fixed its mistakes. Let's give it another try. What, still no app for the iPad?
  • Hurray! Hootsuite works on the iPad!  But...uh...not on my new Mac.  PEOPLE!!!!
  • So I guess it's Tweetdeck for my Mac laptop. Hootsuite for my iPad. Hurray?? And oh, I need the Twitter site when I have to borrow hubby's computer. Or add the twitter feed to my blog. (Yup, it's down there on the right a little ways.)

This is what it boils down to for me. I need multiple apps and duplicative networking sites in order to stay in touch. But hey, I guess that's life. :) It's like having multiple children, where there's a different approach I have to take depending on which one I'm interacting with. The message is the same no matter where I go. But getting it across? Well, it's just going to take a little extra patience on my part. :)

How about you? Do you tweet?  Which program suits you best and why? Are you on Twitter? Can I stalk--I mean, can we be friends?

  1. I do, but not as often as I would like. I use TweetDeck. It works well for what I use it for. I've never downloaded HootSuite. But then again, I only have the laptop that I work on. If I'm commenting on something I've seen on TV, then I'll use the phone. I think we might already stalk each other :)

    1. :) Yes, Melanie...we totally stalk each other. Sooooo, does that still make it stalking? Hahaha. Yup. The way we connect sometimes depends on what we're doing at the time. :) *sneaks away to stalk another day*

  2. Nice, I appreciate the review. I'll give Hootsuite a look since I'm not thrilled by the iPad Twitter client. I'm a big fan of Tweetdeck... if only I could get it to link to my Google+ account I could do most of my social networking from there.

  3. I love Twitter but I like to keep my access simple.

  4. I'm a recent TweetDeck user. I might download HootSuite to try it out--I'm intrigued to know what the difference is. I like the way TweetDeck makes it easier to follow threads and see who's responding to my Tweets. But there are things I would like it to do that it might if I take the time to figure it out. Or perhaps HootSuite does those things "out-of-the-box"--we'll see. I enjoy Twitter, I like these tools, but I'm still very much playing around with them to see what they do. :)

    And I welcome stalkers--I mean followers--to my Twitter account (@colin_d_smith). :)

    1. You'll have to tell me how you like Hootsuite. When it first came out I wasn't too impressed. Now with all their updates I think they've surpassed Tweetdeck. But alas, Hootsuite doesn't work on my Mac laptop for some reason. Hence the multiple programs. *sigh* :) Thanks for the follow on Twitter!

  5. Yes, I'm on Twitter. You can add me at @iheartkidlit...drop me a short note and I'll add you back. I chose that account name in haste and might change it someday. For what if I decide to venture out of kidlit and publish an adult novel?

    1. I hear ya. I went through a couple of different twitter handles before "finding mine." And I LOVE writing YA, but I do have an adult novel tucked away in my computer...*shhhh* :)

    1. Excellent!! It's the Mac laptop that doesn't seem to want to play nice with Hootsuite. Odd, since it's an Apple product just like my iPad. Hmmmmmm... :)

  7. I have Twitter account, but I don't live there like some folk do. I'm fairly sure I follow you already.

  8. *Tra la la la la la la...Hey neighbor...uh...what's that weird swirly thing in front of your face?* lol Did we ever think we'd be talking in real time with people and use so many of the unique symbols on our keyboards? I'm not on twitter as much as others, but it's a great resource to chat, follow, and laugh at the world even when I'm holed up in my room. :) And yup, we play a good game on tag online. :)

  9. My Twitter behavior is similar to yours in that I use multiple applications. I like Tweetbot because it supports Pocket, Instapaper,Readability, syncs timeline position between my iPhone and iPad, saves drafts, etc. I do like Tweetdeck and Hootsuite (Hootsuite is available for both iPhone and iPad so...) for its organizational platform. The bottom line: To tweet,I'll probably employ Tweetbot. To review, organize and plan, I'll probably employ Hootsuite.
